Valna – Paladin – Redemption Seeker
Valna comes from a very wealthy, well – known family. The family over many generations has made their good fortunes through civic service and charitable works. Their good name has been beloved throughout the land and no ever dare question worthiness of trust.
Valna and friend since childhood were out on an evening’s stroll, when quite suddenly they hear a disturbance (scuffling & muffled noises) coming from a short distance away. They wander from the open road; around the corner to the backside of a pub to investigate. When they get to the location of the disturbance, they find a very large man scruffy and odorous man in pursuit of affection from a young girl. She had been beaten badly and was now being ravaged under the stars of night.
Valna and friend become involved, interrupting the man’s apparent fun. The man does not heed the warning, only laughs as countless numbers of his companions who have been keeping an eye out and lying in wait for a turn, come out of the shadows and surround Valna and her friend. Engaging the hostile opponents they set about, in hopes to free the young girl but…somehow during the ensuing battle Valna found herself turning on her friend. Knowing full well at the time, what was going on and struggling within to stop it, it was many minutes and several hurtful blows before Valna could cease the attack on her friend. After gathering her composure, she tried to piece together what she knew about type affects and how to overcome the foe. Once she pinpointed the magic user out of the bunch, it would not be much of a contest for the rest. Systematically going through each imposter before coming to the wizard took some time but having to fight alone while her friend lie bloodied and the girl under attack was heartbreaking. Standing scared and resisting the urge to run while trying to navigate missiles and flat footed attacks seemed to be an impossible feat. And it was… for the friend was bleeding out, The man was making off with the girl and the rest stayed, taking turns beating down the paladin.
When the Valna became conscious, she found her friend was gone. Thinking the friend was taken along with the girl, Valna ran to track down the band of ruffians. When she catches up to them, the leader sacrifices the girl in front her. The friend is nowhere in sight. When she gets back to her home town, Valna’s good name has been destroyed by her long time friend. Talk of the town is that during the encounter, Valna helped the ruffians and turned on her friend. When Valna was called forth to explain her actions, she did. When asked questions about the girl, she admitted to having failed in the attempt to save her.
In the end, it was ascertained that magic had been involved, however the friend never truly trusted Valna afterwards and the towns folk blamed Valna not so much for the death of the girl but for coming home before having avenged her death. The girl was also a childhood friend of Valna’s. She was the daughter of her father’s best friend, only she hadn’t known it at the time as she was beaten until she was no longer recognizable.
